    Arrival in Chalon

    Arrival in Chalon sur Saône.

    Chalon - Tournus

    Distance : ~35km

    This stage in southern Burgundy takes the Voie Bleue cycle route, along  small flat roads of the alluvial plain of Chalon-sur-Saône.

    In Tournus, you will follow the Quai de la Marine and  the towpath to your hotel.

    Tournus - Macon

    Distance : ~34km

    Today’s route is marked out by charming villages built around romanesque churches, as you ride along the Voie Bleue, the cycle path between Tournus and Mâcon. This is quite an easy stage dedicated to the inland river navigation that has animated the Saône since the dawn of time.
    Arrival in Mâcon by the quays of the Saône to the marina, located to the north of Mâcon. Arrival at your hotel, in the city center of Mâcon.

    Macon - Cluny

    Distance : ~28km

    After breakfast and a final ‘au revoir” to the charming town of Mâcon, and the river that accompanied you for the last two days, it’s on to the buccolic countryside. Little by little, you’ll approach the Côte Chalonnaise, climbing up to the Bois Clair tunnel, the longest tunnel open to cyclists in Europe.

    Gentle arrival in Cluny, a remarkabe town,  where the abbey’s three church towers stand out against the surrounding green hills. You really must visit the Abbaye de Cluny, the Museum of Art and Archeology, as well as the national stud farm.

    Cluny - Chalon

    Distance : ~51km

    Leave Cluny in the morning, heading north. Today, you will have multiple opportunites to discover a rich heritage of Romanesque churches and timeless villages. To begin with you’ll reach the elegant Renaissance chateau of Cormatin. The route then continues along the old railway line winding through the vineyards of the Côte Chalonnaise.
    Arrive in Chalon-sur-Saône and finish your tour.

THE VINEYARD

Burgundy is home to many vineyards and here you will discover the famous vineyards of the Côtes de Beaune and Nuits as well as those of the Côtes Chalonnaise and Maconnaise

On limestone and marl, the pinot noir grape variety reigns supreme, offering fruity and elegant red wines, with cherry, raspberry and spice notes. Chardonnay also holds its own, producing fresh and sharp white wines, with citrus and white flower aromas.

Throughout the journey, you will have the chance to learn more about the history and the heritage of Burgundy through cellar visits and wine tastings directly at the wineries.
