THE VINEYARD

The vineyards of the Beaujolais region are renowned for their red wines made from the Gamay grape. The most famous is, of course, the Beaujolais Nouveau, a ‘primeur’ or young wine sold on the third Thursday in November. The other wines of the region are divided into three categories:

– Beaujolais Villages: wines from 38 specific towns, typically more complex and structured than the Beaujolais Nouveau.

– Beaujolais Cru: wines produced in 10 of Beaujolais’ most prestigious crus, such as Brouilly, Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent

– Beaujolais AOC: wines produced in the vineyards of all other towns which are usually lighter and fruitier.

OPTIONAL

Enhance  your trip with a few wine tastings to tantalize  your taste buds and your eyes:

– Tasting in a winery in Romanèche-Thorins
– Tasting in a winery on one of the loop tours
