Your itinerary

  • 1

    Arrival in Beaune

Arrival in Beaune, a lovely town in the heart of the vineyards.

Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Burgundy with a visit to the Hospices de Beaune. Or, for children (and adults too!) take a fun tour of the Fallot mustard factory.

  • 2

    Beaune - Chassey-le-Camp

    Distance : ~25km

After breakfast, you will start to bike through the vines on a cycle path roaming through wine producing villages such as Pommard, Volnay, Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet. You will have plenty of opportunities for wine tasting on the way to Santenay. Then, you will ride on the cycle path along the canal before joining your destination located on the Côte Chalonnaise.

  • 3

    Chassey-le-Camp - Dracy-le-Fort

    Distance : ~25km

After breakfast, you will cycle on small country roads to join another cycle path along the “Canal du Centre” which you will follow to Chagny, passing near Rully, a wine village close to Chalon sur Saône. Dracy-le-Fort is a small village on the edge of the Côte Chalonnaise vineyards. You will spend the night in a 3* hotel with pool.

  • 4

    Dracy-le-Fort - Cluny

    Distance : ~44km

In the morning, you will cycle to the “Voie Verte” cycle path in Givry (a wine village reputedly producing Henry IV’s favorite red wine). This path has been built on a former railway, and was the first cycle path in France. You will appreciate the charming roman architecture in Buxy, St Gengoux-le-National, or Malais. You will arrive in Cormatin, the perfect place for lunch and a visit of the chateau before continuing on to Cluny. The abbey of Cluny and the stud farm are a must for a visit.

  • 5

    Cluny - Mâcon

    Distance : ~28km

After breakfast, you will continue on the same cycle path to Mâcon. The landscape gradually becomes hillier, even if you are biking on an easy cycle path. On your way, the Château de Berzé-le-Châtel is a romantic place to visit and the view it offers merits a detour even for a short visit. You will also be able to cross the longest European tunnel open for cyclists and keep on biking through the Val Lamartien, with magnificent views of the Solutré rock.

  • 6

    Departure

After breakfast, you have the possibility of either returning to Beaune by train or taking a high speed train (TGV) from Mâcon to Paris.

THE VINEYARD

The vineyards of Burgundy are among the most famous in the world. Its exceptional wines and the quality of its soils make it a destination of choice.

The red grape varieties are mainly pinot noir and gamay whereas the white wines are mainly a variety of chardonnay and aligoté. These wines can be kept for a long time, thus bottles of Romanée-Conti, Chambertin or Montrachet can be left to age for many years and are a dream for winelovers from all over the world!

OPTIONAL

Add up to three tastings during your trip. On the Voie des Vignes, on the second day, you will be able to taste exceptional wines such as Chassagne-Montrachet, Meursault and Pommard. Enjoy the fragrances of Rully wines on the third day, or get carried away by the discovery of Côte Chalonnaise wines on the fourth day.
